Checklist

Metadata checklist

Metadata is how you introduce a page to crawlers, social platforms and readers deciding what to click. It should be accurate, specific and unique per page — never stuffed or duplicated.

01Title tags

  • Every indexable page has a unique, descriptive title.
  • The primary topic appears naturally near the beginning.
  • Length fits typical display limits without truncating the meaningful part.
  • No boilerplate repetition across templates (e.g., identical titles on every product).

02Meta descriptions

  • Each important page has a hand-written meta description that summarizes its actual content.
  • Descriptions read like honest ad copy — they set expectations the page fulfills.
  • Auto-generated fallbacks exist for long-tail pages rather than duplicating others.

03Social & rich previews

  • Open Graph title/description/image are present and render correctly in link previews.
  • Twitter card markup mirrors Open Graph where relevant.
  • Preview images have sensible dimensions and legible content.

04Hygiene

  • Canonical tags point at the preferred URL self-consistently.
  • Headings follow one H1 per page with logical H2/H3 structure.
  • Language/region annotations are correct for multilingual sites.
